Kathmandu - Pokhara - Chitwan Jungle Safari (7 Nights / 8 Days)
Kathmandu-Pokhara-Chitwan Tour Itinerary:
Day 01:
AM Arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu. A traditional warm welcome with garlands by our airport representative. Transfer to hotel. Briefing about the program.
PM For guests arriving Kathmandu before noon, we suggest optional sightseeing in the afternoon of Patan city famous for its arts and crafts. Tour highlights are the Shikara - style Krishna Temple, Patan Durbar with Royal bath, Hiranya Varna Mahavir - a Buddhist Monastery and overnight at hotel.
Day 02: KATHMANDU - NAGARKOT
AM: Begin half day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu valley by visiting two very important religious centers, Pashupatinath Temple: It is a temple of Lord Shiva. It is situated in the bank of the sacred Bagmati river. It is a pagoda-style temple with gilt roof and richly carved silver doors. One of the most holy temples in the entire Hindu world. Pashupatinath temple is the centre of pilgrimage on the day of Shivaratri. Only Hindus are allowed to go inside the courtyard of the temple. It is situated five Kms. east of Kathmandu Tourists can view the temple from the eastern side of the Bagmati river.Bodhanath: The Stupa of Bodhanath lies 8 kms east of Kathmandu. This ancient colossal Stupa is one of the biggest in the world, and the center of Tibetan Buddhism in the world. It was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Monument List in 1979.PM: Lunch enroute. Drive on to Bhaktapur, the medical cities of devotees and the best preserved of all the old cities of Kathmandu Valley. Then drive to resort in Nagarkot to sunset views over the Himalayan ranges. Dinner on own.Overnight at hotel.
Day 03: KATHMANDU
AM: Wake up early in the morning to enjoy the beautiful sunrise view. After breakfast drive back to Kathmandu for the half day valley sightseeing tour with a visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square, the place of the Malla and then the Shah kings of Nepal. Places of interest here are the Kasthamandap: It lies near the temple of Kumari. It was built in 1596 by King Laxmi Narsingh Malla. It is said to be constructed from the wood of a single tree. It is believed that Kathmandu derived its name from Kastha Mandap.
Kumari Temple: It is the residence of Living Goddess (Virgin Goddess). The building has profusely carved wooden balconies and window screens. The non-Hindu visitors may enter the courtyard, but may not go beyond. The Kumari acknowledges their greetings from her balcony window. Photography is prohibited.
From here visit Swayambhunath: This is said to be more than 2000 years old and is one of the world's oldest Buddhist Chaityas. The stupa which forms the main structure is composed of a solid hemisphere of brick and earth supporting a cornice of copper and gilt. Painted on the four sided base of the spire are the all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. It is two miles west of Kathmandu city. Situated on a hillock it is about 250 feet high above the level of the Valley. The hill is a mosaic of small chaityas and pagoda temples and possesses great dignity and beauty.
PM: Visit Dakshinkali Temple and Pharping: Both are the places of religious pilgrimage. Pharping has shrine of Shesh Narayan which is situated beneath a stalactite rock. There are ponds at the base where there are different kinds of fish. The site of Dakshinkali is famous for the beautiful natural surroundings.Overnight at hotel.
Day 04: KATHMANDU - POKHARA
AM: After early breakfast, drive to Pokhara through scenic mountain terrain. This picturesque town set on the laps of Annapurna mountains is the staging area of all treks in this region. Lunch enroute and upon reaching Pokhara, commence brief sightseeing of Pokhara visiting Seti Gorge, Bindhyabasini temple, Barahi Temple, Old Bazaar and 1 hour boating on Fewa Lake you can enjoy. The evening can be spent most enjoyably on the bank of the Fewa Lake which reflects the towering Fishtail Peak in its water.Overnight at hotel.
Day 05: POKHARA - CHITWAN
AM: After breakfast, drive to Royal Chitwan National Park, your destination for wildlife viewing. Arrive at Chitrasari. Reception by Gaida naturalist. Transfer to the Lodge followed by refreshments and a briefing about the afternoon programme and the Lodge facilities. Lunch at the central dining restaurant, "Golghar".
A talk on the elephants by our naturalist at the elephant stable. Jungle safari on elephant back. An excellent opportunity to see four different kinds of deer, rhinoceros, wild boar, leopard, monkeys, birds and many other smaller animals. A Slide Show Presentation about the natural history & flora & fauna of the national park. Dinner & Overnight at hotel.
Day 06: CHITWAN
AM: Wake up call. Tea/Coffee.
Nature walk: An excellent opportunity to be familiar with the diverse vegetation of the park and to see a great many of those over 500 different species of birds which have made Chitwan their home. Breakfast.
Dugout canoe ride along with Dungre/Rapti river. An excellent opportunity for bird watching and to see the 2 rare species of crocodile; the marsh mugger and the fish eating gharial. Half an hour walk through the jungle to The Elephant Breeding Farm. Drive back to the Lodge. Lunch at Resort.
PM: Village walk. A conducted visit to the nearby Tharu village. Walk/drive back to the Lodge. 1 Tharu Tribal Dance presented by the local Tharu villagers.Dinner & Overnight at hotel.
Day 07: CHITWAN - KATHMANDU
Morning: Wake up call. Tea/Coffee. Elephant Safari/Nature Walk or at Leisure. After breakfast, departure from the Lodge by drive to Kahtmandu.Overnight:Hotel at hotel.
Day 08: DEPARTURE
Free till departure and transfer to the airport for flight to onward journey.
